A Boy’s Superhero Bedroom

Within every young buy is the heart of superhero.

Brayden is at that age when Superhero’s are a really big deal. Marvel. Justice League. Captain America. Superman. You name it he is into it and wanted his room to be a tribute to all of his favorite issues.

His mother was all in for making her little man happy but with one caveat; she did not to feel like she walked straight into a comic book when it was time for bedtime stories. She wanted the room to feel like it belonged within the overall design of the house.

The solution, bringing together some retro superhero imagery and custom art and pillows with some of the rustic, cozy attributes of the rest of the house. To achieve the latter, we added some wood ship lap to create a feature wall, put up a lovely signature light fixture, and custom made some bedside reading lamps. My favorite piece of superhero art? Our hand made Captain America shield made of string art and placed against pallet wood.

Finding Neverland - A Little Girl’s Dream Room

This magical bedroom goes down as one of my all time favorite projects. As a designer who strives to bring inspire dreams and bring whimsy into the lives of her client, how could I not be excited about creating Wendy’s room from Peter Pan for a sweet little girl?

The inspiration for this room was drawn from the kids’ room staged in the queue of the Peter Pan ride at Disney World (no doubt I had plenty of time to admire it with that line!). I wanted to incorporate the beautiful purple vertical stripes from the wall paper but used more lavender vs. dark purple when I painted the space to keep it light and airy. I also wanted to bring some of the more ornate, traditional architectural elements with the bed and through adding wainscoting.

However, this room was made in the details! Every young girl dreams about Peter Pan sweeping in through the window to carry her off to Never Land so I created a faux window with a custom paint of the London skyline. We found some lovely old school Peter pan art to adorn the walls along with a custom needle point. Finally, we topped it off with an amazing pirate ship light fixture and, of course, Nana Dog to keep watch over this precious little girl.

Glam Rock Office

Sanjay makes his living as a photographer for advertising, film, and so much more. He is creative to his core and has a big personality that is truly inspirational. The challenge? How could such a creative talent and lively personality draw inspiration from an office that was completely counter to his personality?

I loved working with Sanjay on the redesign of his office due to his tremendous enthusiasm and no shortage of creative ideas. After a long discussion we landed on “Glam Rock” as our vision for his space.

Some of my favorite features of this room include the beautiful plush seating area, hand stenciled feature wall, and a chandelier that brings the glam and pop to the space.

He also had an old desk he was partial to that did not fit the aesthetic. We made it fit by stripping it down and refurbishing in a beautiful black.

Now Sanjay has a space that befits his big and beautiful talent and personality.

An Office For a Gentleman

The moment I saw this space it screamed potential. While the carpet and the wood finishing was worn and dated it had great bones with the natural light, beautiful cabinetry and paneling. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it.

We started by refinishing all the wood-work with Special Gray paint; a wonderful complement to the new wood floors. This color palette brought an elegant masculinity to what was an older, traditional look.

For furnishing we added a deep wood Pottery Barn desk as the hero piece and complemented it with seating area of gray chairs.

The floating drawers created a great liquor cabinet for my client’s bourbon collection and the massive wall mirror did wonders in creating the illusion of a larger space and accentuating its natural light.

Modern Retreat

The challenge for Modern Retreat was a full conversion from the design of an early 2000’s build to a tranquil, modern space that evoked the relaxed feeling of a vacation spa. We began by knocking down a few walls to open up the space. The primary pallet included white tile/paint, marble, and stone complemented with rustic woods to bring richness and depth to the space. Beautiful pendant and modern chandelier lighting complete the space with elegance and warmth.

 Adult Annexation

Most parents will understand the challenge behind this project. As a family grows and kids (and perhaps a puppy) enter a household the lines between spaces often get blurred. Soon any semblance of adult space is taken over by toys, games, craft spaces, crates, etc. That was the case here as my client was looking to annex back some their home for a place for entertaining and adult conversation while searching to find their own style through a blend of traditional and modern design elements.

We began by landing on a warm, contemporary style as the theme from the room. Space was created for conversation and entertainment by replacing a large sectional with leather sofas and some yellow chairs that brought a pop of color. Bar stools added some seating so the conversation could carry to the kitchen while meals were made. We converted some empty space into a breakfast nook where the family could gather over a meal or the kids could settle in for homework or arts and crafts. The room was pulled together and some character was added with gold mirror coffee table art, a beautiful area rug, and throw pillows that complement the chairs and rug.
